The Author, Katherine Lockwood

Picture
In addition to having a disability myself, my background is as a disability rights advocate, a special education teacher, and a school counselor. Growing up with Cystic Fibrosis - I had a disability that you couldn't see. Now having a little one with "something" you may be able to "see", I know how important representation is.

I live on Cape Cod with my husband Arden and our girls Rose and Magnolia. When not working on this project or surviving a pandemic, you can find us swimming, boating, renovating, drinking champagne, and eating potluck dinners with friends.

The Illustrator, Evgeniya Erokhina

Picture
Hello everyone! My name is Evgeniia Erokhina. I am an artist and book illustrator, as well as a mother, wife and just a dreamer in life. I was born in the USSR, and grew up in Russia on the ruins of a great power. As a child, I lived simply: I wore old clothes from my older sister, did not have many toys, but loved and cherished those that I had, and I never had many beautiful books. Books with illustrations were difficult to buy in those days. To get a good children's book, my mother had to work hard: get up early on a day off, drive to another area and stand in a long line of other people who wanted to buy a beautiful new book. I remember one of my favorite children's books - A.S. Pushkin "Fairy Tales", in it one page was torn off - that was the only way my mother was able to buy it.

I am very very glad that books have become available to everyone. We can now buy a book on any topic, and we can also create a book ourselves! Now we live in the era of freedom of speech, and many very important topics, which for a long time it was not customary to talk about, began to be discussed. I am glad to BE a part of this process. Helping children to get to know the world better, develop their imagination and feel that you are not alone with your struggles. Every child should have the opportunity to read interesting books with beautiful illustrations
